R/3: 4.6C
SAPDBA version: 6.2
Database: 10.2.0.2
OS: AIX 5.3
Hi,
I tried running SAPDBA at the OS level. The screen does appear however in the DATABASE field, it says "db status unknown" and SAPDVT field shows "not connected". See below.
Anyone knows what could have gone wrong?
What I am trying to get is the Archive mode information which I can't seems to locate running the command '"brtools" and "brspace". Any clue where to get this information beside SAPDBA?
Regards,
Annie

SAPDBA 6.20 as well as kernel 6.20 are LONG out of maintenance.
Use the BR*TOOLS (7.00) instead of SAPDBA and install a 6.40 kernel.

Hi Markus,
I actually had BRTools 7 in placed. I am trying to get the (f) Archive Log Mode information in SAPDBA from BRTools but I don't where it is now in brtools. Hence, I go back to SAPDBA, hoping to get the piece of information.
The SAPDBA screenshot has a clear view of how many logs are available with the free space available in the server, the mode, status....If you do know how to extract the same piece of information in brtools, pls let me know.
Thanks!

Annie
Hello Annie,
You are correct some SAPDBA functionality may work with 10g
So, you are going to risk to use a tool that
- was never released from SAP for Oracle 10g
- It is not being developed any more, even no new patches are created for it
- It is not supported by SAP
SAPDBA is long replaced by BR*TOOLs.
I can understand that people using Oracle 8i (still some left) uses it.
I can understand that people who "acquire" old manuals where only SAPDBA is mentioned want to use it with newer versions.
But the issue here is that SAPDBA is not supported (and will not be supported) by SAP on 10g, even when, technically, it may work
Hi Fidel,
I do know where you are coming from. Given that BRTools has replaced SAPDBA and no longer supporting SAPDBA, I am most happy to use BRTools as long as it provides the information and functionality. In this case, I am seeking alternatives since I couldn't seems to be able to get the detailed information that was available in the past.
Do you know where I can obtain the detailed results that is shown in SAPDBA (f) Archive log mode? It looks to me that BR*Tools doesn't calculate how many offline redo logs are available with the available free space whereas you can see instantly in SAPDBA. And the rest of the information are distributed in different area. Not very friendly, I would say.
The information I am after is useful for auditors.

Annie
Hi,
Ya, I understand SAPDBA tool is out of date. But is there any SAP offical note to mention about SAPDBA will not work on 10g? From note 651812, it only mentions "BR*TOOLS are increasingly replacing SAPDBA functions". But I cannot find anything about if SAP has stopped supporting SAPDBA tool.

Li Bin
very easy.
SAP has not "stopped" supporting SAPDBA.
If you realize, it has "stopped" delivering SAPDBA. What is the latest SAPDBA version that you can find?
Since version 6.40 you cannot find SAPDBA in any kernel.
AFAIK, you can download kernel 6.20 (not in maintenance any more) and get SAPDBA.
I do not know how can be put in better words.
Please, take also a look at SAP note 12741 to see where you can get SAPDBA from.
I do not know if there is any SAP note that says literally "we do not support SAPDBA", but there are notes that say that kernel 6.20 is out of support (or stram maintenance or whatever name it is)
You can check this in sqlplus:
> SELECT LOG_MODE FROM V$DATABASE;
Or you can check the V$ table in SAP itself.
I forgot the TC, but I think it was somewhere in TC ST04 or ST06...
Kind regards
Boudewijn
