I have been using 8.5 for awhile now. However just recently i have not been able to edit existing reports. I can't insert text, fields, can't copy and paste, can't resize an field unless I start all over with a clean report. Any idea why this might be happening to me. Running this on Windows XP SP2.

If I were to upgrade, even up to CR 2008 will I be able to continue to use my existing reports? If not at what point (version) can I continue to use my existing reports?

You'll be able to use your existing reports. Althought waiting this long to upgrade is normally more tediuous than upgrading version by version.
You'll find MANY new features and capabilities in XI or XI-R2 or XI-R3 (CR2008)
You may want to search the Library (on this site) for the following whitepaper titles:
"Chart Changes from Crystal Reports 8.5, 9 and 10 to XI"
"Connectivity changes from Crystal Reports 8.5 to XI"
"Upgrading to Crystal Reports XI.pdf"
If any of your older (8.5) reports use Crystal Queries or Dictionaries you really need to read through the connectivity changes well. Crystal Queries and Dictionaries haven't been supported for quite some time.
Check out your Supported Platforms document for CR8.5 and remember how long 8.5 has been released.....and how long it's been since it was supported and how long after that your operating system was released.
May be time to upgrade your CR version to 9, 10, 11 (XI) , 11.5 (XI-R2, or CR2008 (R3).
