Constantly having to restart the CMS (BOXI)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I am constantly having to restart the Central Management Server

Tracking Event Viewer in Windows 2000, I can see several (50+) Warnings and the following Error:

CMS is unstable and will shut down immediately. Reason: Database access error. Reason [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure.

The warnings are all

Database access error. Reason [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure.

Checking the cms log I can see that the server cannot restart, but I cannot see why, and I can't seem to find the cause either.

Timestamp ProcessID ThreadID Message

[Fri Aug 08 16:58:44 2008] 4272 4488 assert failure: (.\ObjectSubsystem.cpp:2503). (0 : Too many retries, restarting APS).

[Fri Aug 08 16:58:54 2008] 4272 7892 assert failure: (.\cparamlineargs.cpp:330). (!m_programName.isEmpty() : no message).

[Fri Aug 08 17:01:45 2008] 4272 4488 assert failure: (.\subsysmgr.cpp:982). (0 : System restart failure: exit(1).).

Any clues to where I should look to find the cause of this error? Thanks.

    Hii Simon,

your CMS will not start unless the database holding its repository schema will start first.

it seems you have something with ur database intialization.

now its all related to the database not the business objects system

find out why your database doesnt start, and fix the issue with your database Administrator.

check if the database is working fine.

check if the connectivity is ok between the BO Server and the database (if its remote database)

longin to the database from the BO server to check

if it works fine , now you could be to restart the CMS.

    good luck

do you have the Database at the same machine with BO?

if so, maybe the CMS tries to starts before the database start.

you can fix this if its the issue.

    good luck
