Hi everybody...!
We have ALEs to transfer master data from sap to sap. Should we need XI for that purpose? If so, why?

Hi Praveen,
With ALE and IDoc concepts we will integrate the modules by statically and in this case we don't have centralized monitoring like in XI for trouble shooting from starting to end of process.
Where as XI, it have good features like central monitoring in all the levels from Outbound to inbound and vise-versa.
And it is Dynamic and loosely coupled integration.
We can filter the fields and segments and we can implement business process with this XI.
like many ....
Thanks

Yes your right. But some times need to communicate with different SAP versions, that time problem will occur due to IDOC segments. That time XI will come into picture.
Through ALE we can communicate with SAP systems only, but xi we can communicate with any system.

Other than above mentioned monitoring in XI is added advantage.

Hi,
It depends ...
E.g. If you transfer some master data from e.g. central system to non-central system (e.g. DEBMAS Idoc) then it is not necessary ... except you want to have single point of monitoring your all interfaces.
If you need to e.g. filter some fields/do some structure/value mapping between DEBMAS IDocs then XI might be an added value.

Jakub

Yes you can always use ALE to transfer IDocs for SAP to SAP or even RFC's directly but...
PI is meant to be a central SAP integration tool. If you have a complex landscape then it is often very difficult to maintain different connections in different places for different systems.
With PI you can simply connect your systems to PI and let PI worry about who should receive a message, when and why...
As people have mentioned you also have a cnetral point of monitoring.
So in short I could name many reason for using PI but in your case I think Central point of maintenance, monitoring and scalability are good reasons.
