EWM - Storage section check

Hello,

My client is working with a putaway scenario in which he encounters some limitation in the storage type search sequence.

In the product master data, the slotting view contains multiple storage types and those storage types contain a storage section indicator linked to a storage section search sequence. The idea is that some storage section indicator are created as dummy and linked to a storage section (ex: 0001) for which there is no bin created. In case of storage type search sequence with storage type in sequence A1 and A2, if the SSI on the product is set to "dummy" for storage type A1, we expect the task to be created for storage type A2 because there is no bin created for A1 and section 0001. However, instead of that, the WT is created anyway with storage type A1 and section 0001 and no bin. This is due to the fact that the "WT generic" field is set with value "1 Storage Type and Storage Section". Indeed, the client doesn't want to have the bin determined and prefer let the operator select manually the destination bin:

However, we tried to change the "storage section check" value to "X Storage section determination and check" which based on the SAP Help of the customizing, should check the existence of the bin in that section when creating the WT:

After running some test by changing this value, the result is the same and the WT is still created in storage type A1 and section 0001.

My questions are: what is the role of this storage section check indicator? Can it work in combination with the "WT generic" value of the storage type?

Thank you

Alexis

Hi,

"My client is working with a putaway scenario in which he encounters some limitation in the storage type search sequence."

There are no "limitations". It is like it is 🙂

"In case of storage type search sequence with storage type in sequence A1 and A2, if the SSI on the product is set to "dummy" for storage type A1, we expect the task to be created for storage type A2 because there is no bin created for A1 and section 0001."

You are aware that this does not really make much sense, are you? Because why would you define a section but no bins? If you do not want to putaway the product in this storage type - you should find a different storage type search sequence. It is simply not very sensible to find a storage type search sequence but then try to figure out exclusions. Except maybe via HU type / bin type checks.

"However, we tried to change the "storage section check" value to "X Storage section determination and check" which based on the SAP Help of the customizing, should check the existence of the bin in that section when creating the WT:"

Not sure what the documentation says, but the storage section determination never checks the existence of a bin (why should it???). What the check does, is that it checks if when a destination bin is changed manually during putaway, if this bin is in an allowed section (as the section sequence can also be a limitation; a product can only go into a specific section of a storage type, but not in another section).

to clarify what we want to achieve at WT determination is the following:

  • No Bin Proposal (WT generic=1)
  • and Bin existence check for a specific section (Section CheckActive and=X).

is this possible?

thanks,

Daniele

Hi Alexis,

"what is the role of this storage section check indicator? "

Storage Section Check This indicator allows you to enable the storage section search and check functionality during the automatic bin determination for putaway in accordance with the strategies defined for the section search.

The possible options are listed here:

No storage section determination or check

 Storage section determination and check

 Storage section determination; no check

Source: Copied from SAP Press Book

"Can it work in combination with the "WT generic" value of the storage type?"

WT Generic:

The WT Generic field controls the determination of destination storage data. With this parameter, you can control which part of the destination data needs to be determined at the time of WT creation. When putaway is done in the packing station, you shouldn’t determine the destination storage bin because at the point of WT creation, it isn’t known. Instead, the destination storage bin only needs to be identified during the WT confirmation.

The options for this field are the following:

Not generic (storage type, storage section, and storage bin) Storage type and storage section Only storage type

Source: Copied from SAP Press Book

I guess it will only work if WT Generic opt for Not generic (storage type, storage section, and storage bin)

" we expect the task to be created for storage type A2 because there is no bin created for A1 and section 0001.". Are you expecting system should check bin master existence check or capacity even if WT is Storage type and storage section/Only storage type ?

Kind Regards,

Ajit

Hi Ajit,

Thanks for the answer.

I expect that with the following set up, the system should check the bin existence at the WT creation:

-WT generic=1 Storage type and storage section

-Storage section check=X storage section determination and check

But this is not happening. I am wondering if the storage section check is working at the WT creation or during the WT confirmation.

On this aspect, SAP help is not really clear.

Thanks,

Alexis

Hi Alexis,

As per my understanding, the bin existence check will not work with the above settings.

"I am wondering if the storage section check is working at the WT creation or during the WT confirmation.":->

Please check the SAP documentation. The storage section check will work both time. (at the WT creation or during the WT confirmation)

Kind Regards,

Ajit
