Hi, within my Company we're going to set up an internal Environment for SAP HANA Express Edition, free up to 32GB of memory. It is possible to use this version for an IoT internal project? Our need is to load sensor data and analyze them in real time.
If it is possible, I would like to have some information about supported protocols, in particular I need to know if only "standard" protocols (HTTP-MQTT) are supported or also others.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,

Yes, you may absolutely use SAP HANA, express edition for your data streaming needs. 32gb of in-memory usage should be sufficient for most projects, but it can vary depending on the type of project you are using it for. Here is a sizing guide for more information: https://www.sap.com/documents/2017/01/783a6b39-a47c-0010-82c7-eda71af511fa.html

Hope that helps you determine the resources needed for your type of project. Good luck!

- Annie

Hi Annie,

first of all thank you for the answer. I did download the document for a right sizing as you suggested.

Could you please tell me some information about supported protocols different from HTTPS/MQTT? (for ex. CoAP,SNMP,Modbus,ZigBee, LoRa, Sigfox, OPC, UA)

Thanks in advance for your kindness.

Regards.

Alessandro

OPC and OPC UA are a couple of protocols specifically supported throught SAP Plant Connectivity which in turn provides integration with SAP HANA streaming analytics. Some of the other protocols you listed such as LoRa and ZigBee are likely to be brokered by a gateway device that would then forward the event contents/message payload over a TPC/IP based protocol to the streaming server for processing.

Do you have a specific project or use case in mind?

Ciao Robert,

yes we're going to plan an internal R&D in order to develop an E2E use case starting from following sources:

- Whereable - Indoor positioning

- Smart building - Micro Climate and resources consumption

- ESRI Geocoding (GEO Event)

On top we are going to work on Open UI5 Mock UP

Thanks for your reply.

Regards.

The SAP HANA Streaming Analytics: Adapters Guide provides the full list of available out-of-the-box adapters. Note that MQTT is not available as a pre-built adapter but is used as an example in our tutorial on writing custom adapters using the Java toolkit. This tutorial link is valid for HANA 1.0 SPS11 through HANA 2.0 SPS 01: Writing a Custom Java Toolkit Adapter for SAP HANA Smart Data Streaming SPS11 An updated version for HANA 2.0 SPS 03 should be available on the HANA streaming analytics Developer Center within the next few days.
