HANA 2.0 XSA Web IDE - How do I access a S/4 table (such as T001) from my HDI container?

Using the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA in an on-premise S/4 HANA system running HANA 2.0, how do I create a CDS view in my HDI container on top of a standard S/4 table, such as T001? My admin has already granted my ID access to the S/4 schema, so I can see the S/4 tables in the Database Explorer tool, but I am not sure what files I will need in my database module to reference S/4 tables.

Hm, I think you missed to check the official documentation. Please check Using Synonyms to Access External Schemas and Objects in XS Advanced

Florian,

I read through the document - that seems like a lot of steps and a lot of involvement of Basis/admin. Would it be simpler to access an odata service (that reads T001) created via Netweaver Gateway? Or would that still involve creating synonyms, roles, user-provided services, etc.?

Thanks,

Michael

It is not so much effort as it seems :). And in case your development user is setup properly you do not need any admin or super-user.

Using an odata service via SAP Gateway is not really recommend, because of some drawbacks, e.g.

  • Slower than direct access via standard approach.
  • Dependency to the Gateway system (system must be up and running; where do you configure to which Gateway system your app will connect (already and issue if you think about a Dev - QA - Prod landscape).
  • ...

Regards,
Florian
