Hi SAP gurus,
I have a requirement that,
Ex: There is a PO for a item A and B for 100 numbers(each).Serial number profile is maintained for Item A&B.
PO is released and received Item A & B and doing the MIGO, then Serial numbers are given as A001 to A100 for Item A.
In the same screen, Item B also acceptiong A001 and A100 as serial numbers. But as per our physical system, it should not allow the same serial number for 2 items. Can anybody through some lights and give your inputs to control the allowing the duplicate serial number.

Definition
Data record that contains information for serial number management. The serial number is given to an item of material in addition to the material number, in order to differentiate that individual item from all other pieces of this material. The combination of material and serial number is unique.
Example of Serial Numbers
Structure
The following information is contained in the serial number master record:
Status information
You can establish here, which system and user statuses are valid for the master record. If necessary, you can set or delete the user status, display the authorized business procedures and set particular system statuses.
Stock information
You can see here in which plant and warehouse the item of material is located, or to which batch it belongs. You can also see what type of stock and special stock is involved. The stock information is recorded automatically when goods movements are performed, and cannot be changed manually.
Partner Data
Here, for example, you can use freely definable partner functions and partners to specify in Customizing which companies are responsible for the maintenance of the serialized material (see Partner Data).
Configuration data
Here, you can configure a item of material according to its characteristics or make reference to a configured object.
Further data and functions, such as maintenance data, location data, and classification, are only available if you add to the serial number master record to make it an equipment master record. For more information, see Creating an Individual Serial Number and Entering Serialization Data in the Piece of Equipment.

Hi
I dont think its a problem.. Becoz the same senario exp i hv in my comp...
We hv procured Gauges that require serial no for tracking that life in terms of quality consistence.
So we use serial no as A1 , B1, C1 like that for all gauges.. up to Z1 if require then it goes as A11, B11 like that
The serial no ordering is fixed for all matl.. n applicable to all... becoz each n every MATERIAL is unique...
The only point is same serial no should not allow to same matl no.. both in physical n in system...
Allowing same serial no to differ matl is not at all a issue..
Regards
Ram
