Old material number

Hi all,

Our requirement is that, We have two plants and in two plants also the old material number is different on each plant.

Now, how can we upload the old material number for two plants. client requiremnt is that they want to use the old material number for some time before they can be comportable with new SAP internal number system.

Solution please.

Hi,

It is not possible to have plant wise old material nos for a single material since it is at client level.

Your client was following wrong practice earlier so ask him not to continue the same in SAP also.

If you want to store both the old material nos then better, enter it in Purchase text for both the plants.

I would not agree with the recommendation of adding it to the PO text as this is usually the text that will print in the form to the vendor. you vendor has nothing to do with your internal problems. Further the PO text is not at plant level, it is general level, too.

It is not possible to store old material numbers of 2 plants in this field in SAP.

You may either append table MARC with a Z-oldmaterialnumber field or you do this mapping outside SAP or in an extra Z-table .

Hi Pankaj,

In SAP, there will be single number for both plants. But user wants to continue to use it for some time like searching the material, for report generation etc. Once they become familiar with New SAP internal number, then they will abondon the old niumber.

If i move the field(old material number) from Basic Data view to Pant Data/Storage view and update the field in MARC table, then can i get what i want please.

If so can u pls explain how to update BISMT(old material number) field into MARC table.

if you append MARC with an own field, then it does not automatically appear in search helps, you have to define own search helps then, which can be done in transaction OMSH

you need to do this with BDC or LSMW

as far as i know there is no std functional module to change it but suerly u can do it with BDC

THIS IS POSSIBLE ONLY IF YOUR CLIENT IS MAINTAINING MATERIAL MASTER AT PLANT LEVEL
