We using BOE 4.2 SP3 with MS SQL 2014. Would we have any issues connecting to a data warehouse running MS SQL 2016? We are using Clarity and Web Intelligence Reports and Universes.

We are needing to upgrade the data warehouse SQL version, but do not want to upgrade our BOE 4.2 SP3 system at this time.

Denis,

I did and it is pretty clear to see BOE 4.2 SP3 will have to be upgraded of it to run on MS SQL 2016, but I'm just connecting to the SQL 2016 data warehouse server to retrieve data. Our current BOE 4.2 SP3 MS SQL 2014 system is completely independent of the data warehouse.

Digging a little deeper, is it possible the required middleware ODBC version may influence my question? (Looks like MS SQL 2014 uses Native Client 11.0 and MS SQL 2016 uses Native Client 12.0 for the ODBC.)

Thanks for your time.

PAM is the law.

For CMS DB - SQL 2016 supported from Sp4.
for Reporting - from Sp4 as well.
It doesn't mean connecting to it won't work, it means its not supported and if you run into issues SAP will not help.

Edwin,

Another options is if your only fetching data from SQL Server 2016, use the Native 11 ODBC. One our customer used mixed Native 10 & 11 connections during the SQL 2008 to SQL 2016 migration. Also during the BI 4.1 to BI 4.2 SP5 migration. For data fetching it works great. You only need to worry if SQL Server 2016 would be user CMS &/or Audit server.

Regards,

Ajay
