Dear Experts,
Please let me know, whetehr we can have the same Storage location for 2 different plants...
for example.. client is having an Common Warehouse for two different plants...
pls explain in detail
thanks
Dear Babu,
If you ask particularly in name of Storage location for 2 plants - No.
You can duplicate a storage location identifier at different plants but each of those is a unique storage location.
For example Plant = 0001 Storage location = S001 and Plant = 0002 Storage location = S001.
Those two storage locations, both called S001, are totally separate unique storage locations. They just both happen to be named S001. Material is valued at the plant level therefore you cannot have a single storage location for 2 plants.
A storage location has to be unique for a specific plant only. It cannot be common to two plants.
You can use the same storage location number for two different plants and the system identifies them uniquely based on the plant/storage location combination.
e.g (Storage location 01 in Plant Mumbai) and (Storage location 01 in Plant Bangalore).
During Inventory, Which plant will the material in a given storage location belong to when you take the inventory at plant level ?
If physically you are using the same warehouse or godown for two different plants, still I am sure you are maintaining separate books for the inventory of each plant. These separate books are separate storage location in the system assigned to each plant though physically they are same.

Hi,
Storage Location will always be determined through Plant.
So, Same Storage Location Code can be maintained for n number of Plants.
For eg..there are 2 plants with codes PLT1 & PLT2.
These 2 Plants can have same Storage Location Code SLOC.
Thanks
Sunil.

Hi Babu,
You can have Same Name Storage Locations not the common StLoc,
Say You can have SL01 for Plant 1000 and SL01 for Plant 2000
But both are separate storage locations in the plants having same Name,
You cannot have one common StLoc for both the plants
Hope it clears you...

HI,
Same name is possible to a storage location for two different plants.
Storage Locations are unique in nature and are specific to the plants above it. Same storage location cannot be assigned to two different plants
Usually Warehouse is reperesented by creating it has a plant.
Thanks & Regards,
Kiran

Hi,
Yes, you can always have a common code for storage location under several plants. But, system identifies it always in combination of Plant and Storage Location.
For e.g. There are 2 Plants as 1000 and 2000 and a common storage location as 9000
Go to OX09 - Here first enter Plant 1000 and then maintain storage location as 9000 and save.
Again go to OX09 - Here enter Plant 2000 and then maintain storage location as 9000 and save.
This will also give you proper tracking of stock storage location wise as well as in combination of Plant and Storage Location.
Refer Reports, MMBE, MB52, MB5B, MC.1 and MC.5
