Deferring a Notification is to set aside a Maintenance Event until a future date or performance based value. Similar to Postponing a Notification, you are taking the Notification out of the currently active backlog while acknowledging that it will be done, just farther in the future. Deferring clears the item from the Planning Board (for now). It also "stops the clock" for response time KPIs on active Notifications.

Deferring a Notification can be useful in a Predictive Maintenance program, as you are determining the best inspection interval for a particular item, especially wear out failures, e.g. brake pads. You received an Event, but after checking do not want to perform the maintenance now. But, also, do not want to wait another full cycle. You defer until an interim point. After more experience, you can change the inspection interval to a longer cycle.

I'm sure others have different uses.

    • Faizan,

The functionality for Deferring a Notification is of a smaller need than many other things. If the system fills everything that you need without using this functionality, then just don't use it.

SAP EAM is meant for many different organizations and has many features developed which may not be needed in your situation.
