Exchange Rate Account Allocation inside invoice JE

Dear Experts,

Anyone here can explain to me, how exactly SAP work regarding the Exchange Rate Allocation?

I have a scenario below.

I created a GRPO on March, 3 in foreign currency.

The exchange rate on that day was : 4.5

Later, I copy the GRPO to AP invoice on March,7.

The exchange rate on that day was : 4.7

Thus, based on my understanding, because there is difference in exchange rate,

my JE for AP invoice will have another extra row for system to capture the difference in rate.

May I know, how SAP decide on which account will appear on that row.

I understand the GL account determination setting.

I setup the account for exchange rate for purchasing already.

However, the system did not capture the account that i setup to the purchasing, but taking account for exchange rate for sale instead. (My exchange rate account for sale and purchasing is different)

Then, when i copy the ap invoice to payment, now, it will capture the correct account.

Is there any other setting that i missed out than gl account determination?

Thank you so much.

I really appreciate for your response.

*****UPDATED QUESTION*****

Dear experts, after went trough some notes, now I understand, the GL setting between GRPO and AP invoice is at Inventory Tab (GL Account Determination).

the setting is correct, which i allocated account B, but system still capture account A inside the JE. Happened only when item quantity is zero or negative, unless it will capture correct account, which is for stock.

Is this system error?

Everything is fine. You are purchasing some inventory items from a foreign vendor right? When you create AP invoice in foreign currency with different exchange rate from GRPO, system will add this difference to the value of items you purchased and post it to inventory account. However, if total (or part of) quantity you received by GRPO is no longer in stock, proportional amount will not be added to item value, but posted to exchange rate difference account on Inventory tab.

Exchange rate difference accounts from purchasing tab are used when there is exchange rate difference between AP invoice and outgoing payment.

Dear Hrvoje Dolonec,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I'm purchasing from foreign vendor.

Your point " proportional amount will not be added to item value, but posted to exchange rate difference account on Inventory tab ".

Is it can be different setting for Item manage by group?

My exchange rate difference account on inventory tab = B

The Item is no longer in stock. Thus, it should hit account B in the JE.

However system did not capture the account.

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

I'm using advanced GL determination, so my posting is performed to Exchange rate difference account on Inventory tab or in advanced rules. If you are using GL determination by item group, then it's the exchange rate difference account from Accounting tab in item group settings.
