Hi Prem,

CR Server is targeted for Midsize companies and is restricted by 20 concurrent access licenses. Where as Business Objects Enterprise is for larger organization and there isn't any limit on licenses. Since about 100 - 150 users will run these 7 reports, if you expect that more than 20 users will access the system at a given time then it is recommended to use BO Enterprise, If you expect lesser users to access system concurrently then you can use CR Server.

Thanks

I think the link is not available now. can you please guide me to the right direction?I need the license details and cost.

I already have my reports developer using developer edition crystal reports but it couldnt scale up when no of concurrent users increases so i need to upgrade to some higher end Crystal or BO tool to use my same Report files(RPT) instead of reDoing it again.

Sincerely,

Prem

I would suggest contacting the [Sales|http://www.businessobjects.com/company/contact_us/] department for the information you need. They can provide you the licensing and cost info you are looking for.

is this possible with Crytsal report server or Business object enterprise?

I know that Crystal reports server can suppport only 20 CAL but is it possible to maintain a connection pooling to the report server and maintain connections to the server so the 21 connection will be wait to take it turn? or can we shedule the reports so it doesn't exceed the CAL.

Thanks,

Prem

Yes you can use the same reports with Crystal Reports server and Business Objects Enterprise, and as well both products have the capability to use an SDK to create your own custom application.

I know that Crystal reports server can suppport only 20 CAL but is it possible to maintain a connection pooling to the report server and maintain connections to the server so the 21 connection will be wait to take it turn? or can we shedule the reports so it doesn't exceed the CAL.

Crystal Reports server does support up to 20 CAL (concurrent access) or 20 NUL (named user). You could create a connection pool to allow users the ability to be queued .... it would be up to you as to how you do this, because there wouldn't be an out of the box way to do it. Scheduling in itself doesn't reduce the number of license you use, because in many cases the users would still need to log in to the system to view the instances of the reports. The exception to that would be scheduling to a format such as PDF and then storing it on a local disk or scheduling to email (emailing out scheduled instances).

Hello Prem,

The Concurrent Access License is per-user logon to Crystal Report Server or BusinessObjects Enterprise.

Each User logon will increment the CAL. If a User logs on twice, then CAL is increased by two. A CAL will not be released until a User logs off. If the maximum number of CALs have been attained, further logon attempts will be denied.

With a Named User License, you can have a number of active Users up to the number of NUL that you've purchased. The named user can connect multiple times to the system. If you would like to add additional Users beyond the NUL that you have, you either have to purchase further NUL, or disable a User already there.

In either case, the CAL or NUL won't work like the CPL that you have with the JRC - license management is handled by the Enterprise system.

With Licensing for the Server or Enterprise, each user accessing reports must be named within the system.

Sincerely,

You will need to keep the connection open for as long as the report is open in the web browser, and at that point when the user is finished prompt them to logoff or write code that cleans up and logs off when the browser is closed.
