Is there a way to close a session opened by a stateful service?

In SAP I have created an enterprise service for a function group from transaction se80. This function group has two methods I must call in succession: change, then post.. So that I can do this via soap I set the service to be stateful (under the configuration tab / interface profile). After doing this the soap create request gets a cookie I can pass to post and have it updating data fine when the data we send is good however there a problem after an error has occurred where the session has locked the data.

This happens when the user puts in bad values and sap returns an error from the call to change (for example if they don't specify a task list strategy). After this if the user fixes the data and tries to update sap again straight away they then see an error like "Equipment task list 10000000 is being used by another user or application". It seems this is because the session is still open. If the user waits a while they can update fine. So I wonder is there a way to close a session opened by a stateful soap service?
