solution manager monitoring setup for practicing

Hi,

I would like to install solution manager monitoring setup for practicing.Here my few questions :

i got systems of sm3 /SR1

where solution manager is installed in SM3.

now my q's are:

1)in which system do i need setup solution manager monitor i mean in which system i should login and setup monitoring.

ex:should i login in SM3 and Put system as SR1?

2) I have installed just solman ,do i need to do configurationor can i proceed to setup monitoring?

3) what are the presteps and sequence in setting monitor setup.

i seen weblogs but i want each and every step in sequence.
