What are the recommendations of running Solution Manager on VM?

Does anyone have any pro's and con's of doing this for Solution Manager running your landscape in a production environment?

Thanks

There are many ways of running in a "VM" - what do you mean exactly? VMware? Xen? LDoms? LPARs?

I'm talking about using VMWare. Probably ESX 3.x.

VMware ESX (and only ESX) is supported for production installation - as long as you don´t use Oracle as database.

See notes:

Thanks,

So, do you have any direct experience with using VM to run Solution Manager for your production environment? Any pro's and con's if this is a good idea or not?

Seems like it would add some extra overhead, but it would be good to not have to purchase additional hardware.

We don´t use VMWare but we use XEN to virtualize systems. Keep in mind that VMWare ESX is installed on the bare metal, you can´t just add it to an already running server.

Apart from that XEN works great, VMWare uses a likewise technique with a "nicer" frontend but XEN comes for free

For you actual usage case I´d contact the hardware vendors, they can tell you better if it´s suited for your environment.
