Crosstabs not averaging correctly

I am using crosstabs in a report that lists students and the grades they received per course. Crosstabs allow me to list the students in a column format.

The first column header says average and this is where I wish to calcutale the averages of the students grades per course. However, it seems that I can get it to average the grades but only per page rather than for the entire group. I have three pages and I need the students listed on all three pages to be included in the average and this average listed on all three pages. Currently what I'm getting is each page of students is being averaged seperatey therefore each page is showing different averages. I've researched crosstabs and still don't know how to make that work or even if it is possible.

Hi Aminah,

If you created a cross-tab displaying the average per student for each class, and it is inserted in the Report Footer or Report Header section, it should display the desired average.

Since it is displaying an average for each page, I am guessing the cross-tab is located in a Group Header of Footer section. If it's the case, then move it to the Report Footer section.

If it still displaying the average per page, then provide more details on how the cross-tab was created:

- Field used in the Rows

- Field used in the Columns

- Summarized Fields used

- In which section have you inserted the cross-tab?

( Report Header, Group Footer, ...)

Heya, this is the guy that's actually having the issue. Finally got around to making an account here. Details to follow:

Yes, placing it in the header for the group itself lets it do the averages per group as we want it, but the issue here is that it repeats onto a side page. Now, this isn't a bad thing in and of itself because I can force it to repeat the row labels. However, due to the fact that I need to include a list of separate values (fleet average) in a space between the row labels and the actual scores and average that are displayed, an issue crops up in that the fields I put in for that purpose are not repeated on the extra page that appears to the right when the columns run off the first page. I need a means for things placed in the header with the crosstab to run over with the crosstab itself.

Sadly, my training thus far with this product has been light, so I'm flying by the seat of my pants a bit and learning as I run into walls.

Because we are pulling an unknown number of students and are required to group them based on the exam they took we had to put the crosstab within the group footer and not the report footer.

James Watkins is actually the guy working on this report so his reply is to help you further understand our delima. I am the program manager and have limited knowledge on all of the details.
