JDK for SM 7.0 Installation

Former Member

Hi All

Scenario below:

  • Installation of SM 7.0 on RHEL 5.x / Oracle 10g 64bit on IBM Blades HS 21 Model.

As I have gone through the PAM, its suggested to use IBM JSE 1.4.2 for this combination.

When I tried to download the JDK from IBM site, I can see the below versions for 64 Bit:

- 64-bit AMD/Opteron/EM64T SR11

- 64-bit iSeries/pSeries SR11

- 64-bit zSeries (S/390) SR11

Can you please let me know which one do I need to download for the above configuration.

Thanks

Srikar

Yes - correct!

you're neither on iSeries (AS/400) nor on z (z/OS) so the AMD/EM64T is the correct one

Hi Markus

Thanks for the reply, since the servers are not based on AMD what does EM64T stand for ?

So p & z series are ruled out since they are IBM HS Blades right ?

Thanks

AMD has developed a "64bit extension" for their CPUs which is called AMD64, Intel later licensed that technology for their Xeon processors and called it "EM64T".

Basically AMD64 and EM64T are synonyms.

I forgot: IBM also has Power blades (JSxx) - if you run Linux on Power on them or AIX (or even i) you would need to install the appropriate JDK of course
