How to have Excel file as Data Source?

Using CRS (BOE11) on SQL Server 2003 R2. Want to shcedule a Crystal Report where the datasource is an Excel file on another server.

Able to connect to data source using Crystal Reports XI on same server as CRS, without any user or password prompt. Saved report to CRS from CRXI. When in CMC of CRS the Process-Database page shows the full path of the Excel file as the Data Source. This full path is also listed as the Server and the Database of the "Use original database logon information from the report". User & Password are blank. "When viewing report" = Use same database logon as when report is run. When Previewing report, get "The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect."

Added Admin User & Password of Server with Excel file. When Previewing, get same error message.

Added an ODBC System DSN on the same server as CRS for the Excel file (not sure if I did it correctly).

In CRS selected ODBC as database driver. Same error. When using IP of server with Excel file and path for the file as 'Database' get, "Failed to open the connection. ReportName.rpt"

How do you use an Excel file as data source with CRS?

Thanks!
