Variable design in query ?

Hello experts,

I need to create a varible in my query, which enable blurry search for a field.

For example, I have some records like following based on two infoobject ZID, ZName.

ID Name

1 Ben

2 Tom

3 Benjamin

I would like to have a textbox for ZName n my query, then user can input 'ben' as search condition, then two records could return.

But I don't know how to design this variable.

If I design in query designer , I can create a variable for ZName infoobject, if it's assigend by manual input, I could not add my logic, because I need to do blurry search, the sql statement contains statement where Zname like '%textbox1%'. I can add my self code by customer exit, but there will be no visible textbox in my query for me to input the search criteria.

Or should I design this in the web application designer? where I can add some control box, like textbox, and do some code processing in the command ?

If you have such experience for text variable processing, please help.

Thanks a lot.

    HI,

I think in 3.5 query designer you have an option while creating a selection variable as contain pattern.

Here you can provide BEN* which will return bothe ben and benjamin. this could match your ur requirement.

    Hi,

For creating variable in your case ZNAME ,you have char restrictions window in query designer.Add your field in that window.

Now right clickon that and Click on restrict then in the show tab selct the variable by which it will show all the variables underor you can yourself create.

For creating clickon create icon. There give description,Tech Name.and in Processed by give manual entry.

In the Details tabyou can selct the variable represent tab assingle value or interval.

Imp thing iswhen you cllickon "variable is" tab select as Mandatory.

This will make variable entry mandatory.

    hope it helps...

if any further queries pls raise i
