Hi Gurus,
Can anybody explain me What is the difference between Batch no. Serial no. and Equipment no.?
And how the three are related to Sales order , Delivery and Billing?
Thanks in Advance,
Manu
Batch : The primary purpose would be to track your products if they are manufactured in Batches. Any kind of chemicals would be an idle exmaple. After production when the GR for the material is done it has to done for plant-sloc-batch combination. Similarly before doing PGI during the delivery processing an appropraite batch has to be selected. SAP has a standard solution for auto batch determination as well. Plenty of times batches are used for some other purpose as well. e.g. for a MNC produces the same product in different countries and want to track where a particular product has been made then Batch management can be used to identify the Made in country
Serial no & equipment: This would be used for example in electrical industry or automobiles where individual item can be tracked using the serial number. The combination of material plus serial number makes and equipment . Equipments could be used to manage repairable products . So if you are into servicing then you can maintain equipments which would show the entire history ,warranty information etc
There is no relation between batches and serial numbers .They can be used independently or in conjunction depending on the products and the business
Hope this information was useful

Hi,
Batch No comes handy for some of the companies say pharmaceutical companies/manufacturing units etc......
If we consider the pharmaceutical unit they will be producing for eg. tablets these tablets will have a unique batch number for identification and each batch will have a serial number assined to it. Based on the batch number/serial number the defects of the mancufacturing will be identified.......
As per my knowledge the batches are mainly maintained for identification purpose..
Serial number is assigned to each product manufactured within that particular batch.
Eg. Say a tablet xyz is manufactured in three shifts each shift may be gven a Batch No and one batch consists of say 100 tablet strips. then each tablet strip will be given a unique serial number through which the defect/fault in the product can be find out in the future....
Hope it helps and also reward points accordingly
Regards
Harsh

Hi,
First we will go this passion,
1. Equipment: Equipment is a big machine , say a example TV. is the equipment. this TV will have so many materials .
2. Serial no. As i said that eqipment has many materials , say pitch tube is one which is manufacture by other company so the serial no. will be given by company in term of regcogization.
3. batch no. this is specifically regarding to the stock storage and easy representation of the stock.the percentage of the materials.
thanks
