MiniSAP licences, grace period.

Hi everyone,

could somebody answer why isn't the 90 day licence available anymore?

I could read the following on the downloads page

(https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-downloads):

Update: SAP's developer products include a 30-day grace period. The 90-day evaluation allowance is no longer available at this time. Please remember to backup your projects before your copy expires.

We used it for University Education, but this change can endanger the continously education.

Best regards

There's been a WHOLE SLEW of posts on this.

I have a horrible feeling that some type of "charging" or fee will be introduced or you have to re-install the whole lot again every 30 days.

The Basis system is a very very good learning tool and runs nicely on typical laptops so you can always do stuff when away from customers sites, don't have an internet connection etc etc.

In any case I would recommend downloading the latest version just in case the downloads are stopped, so at least you'll have a 30 day version working.

In addition a lot of shops are still running OLD technology so even if you are working at a customers site you won't necessarily get a chance to learn Portals, BSP, Web dynpro or even the latest OO stuff.

A Plea to SAP -- please reinstate the 90 license renewals. Saving and restoring a load of projects every 30 days is a real chore.

A possible get around is to use a VM (Virtual Machine) where the date never changes. Only use this VM for SAP exercises however.

Which is probabely as illegal as trying to hack the license.......

Hi,

I fully agree that is illegal. If you know the contact person regarding to licences, then I will contact him/her and ask about the future of the licences.

P.S.:

Anyway, they say that we need to backup our projects before the licence expires.

I think one way is that we install a new minisap before the licence of the old system expires and transport evrything. But I don't know if it is enabled or not to connect two minisap system.

You need to wait for Official SAP News.

It's here

Afraid guys you'll either have to keep re-installing every 30 days or create a "re-useable" / snapshotted Virtual Machine.

I have a feeling that "Corporation Greed" prevalent EVERYWHERE these days --not just SAP is to try and milk every last cent out of us.

They are obviously pushing forward to try and get us to take out subscriptions at 1,000 USD a time (and that only works if you are in Germany or the USA).

The software evaluations have also been very useful in demoing to customers whether to use such things as Portals, Web dynpro etc etc and in consequence have gained a lot of new business for SAP.

Why not (although Corporations IMO NEVER EVER compromise-- We win and you lose is their only motto) allow a single 180 Day license -- simple to implement and enough time for most people to develop and demo typical projects. A re-installation every half year wouldn't be too terrible either.

30 days in general for this type of software is not long enough -- most of use who use this do so in OUR OWN TIME which means evenings and sometimes weekends. Also this is a complicated product - not like a single invoice application or typical trial software.

Incidently the Transport system DOES work in the Minisap system although it's fiddly to set up so you should be able to re-import your projects into a new system.

The worst think is when re-starting with a newly installed system is that everything gets re-compiled when you firt use it.

You seem to be right James. The moment I saw the subscriptions thing came up I were afraid for the sneak preview continuity. In fact, the "Learning more about SDN Software Subscriptions" link in the same notice page you mention leads you to think the subscriptions have something to do with all this.

It would be really sad, a lot of us have no other way to learn than self training both because our companies don't shell money out for training and a subscription is unaffordable for us.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't knew the demos were back before posting. I hope they're here to stay!
