item category field in sale order screen to be greyed out

While creating sale order I have a requirement to make item category field to be uneditable i.e greyed out .

How can I do that ?

Use exit MV45AFZZ to grey out the field or use screen variant (tcode SHD0).

Hi,

I have a similar requirement, i am using SDH0 tcode, but even i though i select the option of "output only", there is no impact to the field for ex, field in sales order header screen - sales view --> "sales office" or "price group" or "customer group"....any idea why it is happening so....

As ravi mentioned dont have manual item categories apart from default item category in item category determination. Another option is to use exit MV45AFZZ.

Hi,

Once there is any subsequent document to sales order item catagory field is going to be grayed out, till that time u can change ur item category. OR if u do nlt maintain manual item categories in the item category determination to ur sales document type it is not possible to change the item category other than the one u specified in the determination.

I already removed the manual item category but still wondering if there is a better solution because the user is keen on having that field in grey mode and in the above case though it is still looks like it can be edited though it cannot be done.
