system date problem

Hi expert,

i am create a bdc programm using transaction FBS1 i am struck in problem of system date in a recording field it takes value by default from system as system date. like this

PERFORM bdc_field USING 'BSEG-VALUT' sy-datum.

but it takes the date field in 8 character format but i want it comes in 10 character format like 22.07.2008 how can i solve this problem.
