Cannot install Xcelsius Engage 2008 - Fatal Error

We tried to install the Xcelsius Engage 2008 software but received the following errors and were unable to install the software. We are running Windows XP and have Office XP applications.

Installer Information: Office XP applicatoin: Excel, Word, Outlook, or Powerpoint must be pre-installed. Higher versions work fine.

Then after we say OK to that error we get the following error message:

Fatal Error: Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

I called BO support and learned that it is unavailable due to the switch to SAP support. I then called BO sales and was connected with the Xcelsius customer support team. They indicated that they couldn't get me to support but suggested I post the issue to here because their software engineers monitor the forums.

Please help resolve this issue quickly. Thanks.

This is a known bug that should be addressed in service pack 1. The installer is checking for Office 2003 or higher. The following is a workaround to allow Xcelsius to install.

Note: This requires changes made to the registry. Please make a backup copy of the registry before making any changes, or consult with your IT department.

Manual Change

1. Go to Start > Run. Start the registry editor by entering 'regedit'.

2. Select the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and navigate to \Software\Microsoft\Office\

3. Create an 11.0 folder, if it doesn't exist, by selecting Edit > New > Key from the menu.

4. Create a subfolder called PowerPoint

5. Create a subfolder under PowerPoint called InstallRoot

You should now have the folder structure listed below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\PowerPoint\InstallRoot

6. From the InstallRoot folder create a string value called "Path" by selecting Edit > New > String Value.

7. Select the newly created Path value and select Edit > Modify.

8. Under the Value Data field enter "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\"

9. Click OK.

10. Exit the registry editor.

11. Reboot your machine.

You should now be able to install Xcelsius 2008.
