Hello

I have noticed that with SAP 16 sybase GUI interface sybase Central is no longer part of the software, SAP recommends using CockPit, i have configured, however does not have not even close the same functionality as old Sybase Central, is there or is SAP planing to include another GUI for SAP database management?

Hi Helena,

I believe your query is pertaining to SAP IQ 16. You are correct Sybase Central has been discontinued and IQ Cockpit is the Administration and Monitoring tool that can be used. This is the ONLY tool available for now, no current plans of replacing it.

thank you for your reply. My question is for database Sybase / SAP Version 16. In previous versions of Sybase 15.7 and below Sybase used to include the GUI sybase Central , now with Sybase / SAP version 16 that tool is no longer supported or any other GUI is included other then the Cockpit which does not have not even close the same functionality as SCC

Hi Helena,

Sybase 15.7 is for ASE - Adaptive server enterprise.

I will get someone from the ASE team assist with your query.

Hello Helena,

SQL Anywhere 16 includes Sybase Central. Did you use full SQL Anywhere installation or custom? Also, do you have SQL Anywhere installation standalone or as part of some other product?

If it is a full standalone SQL anywhere installation, it should be in "SQL Anywhere 16/bin64" folder. It will be called scjview.exe.

Evgeniya

Hi Helena,

Before SAP bought Sybase, Sybase actually had 4 distinct database products: Adaptive Server, SQL Anywhere, IQ, and SQL Advantage. ASE, IQ, and Anywhere all have a version 16, so we still aren't sure which product you are asking about.

Sybase Central was used for ASE prior to 15.7; it was replaced by Sybase Control Center with the 15.7 release, and SAP stopped including Sybase Control Center in ASE rollups as of 16.0 SP02. Control Center has been replaced with Cockpit; SAP isn't providing another GUI for managing ASE.

Thank you Bret

Im asking about the ASE, Sybase Control Center, it was a good product, as for the SAP ASE Cockpit, it has more limitations as in some hosts the ports are blocked due to security etc

thank you again

Hi Helena,

My understanding is that DBA cockpit is more for use with environments running SAP applications like Business Suite on ASE than for stand-alone custom-use ASE installations. I have no direct experience with these GUIs.
Some information on DBA cockpit is in chapters 8 and 11 of this document:

Thank you so much Bret, I have configured the Cockpit for SAP 16X and currently using it, however, we really hope SAP will develop and include some other tool more efficient

thanks again for your help

Helena
