In sales process, there is a vertical columns on both sides , that is Material management , and production ( mm and pp)
and
why they kept on both sides. and what is the use
hi
this means that SD has got an interface with those modules
for example when you are creating the sales order you enter the material and quantity
the system has to find out whether the material is available are not,,this i can only find out when there is an interface with MM.. ( through the concept of availability check )
also when you do the PGI the stock level has to come down this is one more area where SD is related to MM
let us assume the material is third party material
where when you create a sales order it should generate a purchase requisition, so that the production people can purchase that material
in this way SD is related with PP
all the best

This is beacuse, during Sales process there many integration point or interfaces with MM& PP.
During sales order procesing, we enter material, check availability . these are SD-MM interface as material mainly belong MM area.
During Sales order, a Transfer requirement is send to materials planning department, sometime we go for Make-to-order product.Communications are transferred to PP .This is SD-PP interface.
During picking, we go to Warehouse which is a MM area, we assign our Plant &storage loc to the Warehouse no.This SD-MM interface.
During PGI,quantity is updated in the Inventory managementin MM. This is SD-MM interface.
This is why on both side vertical column of MM and PP are made to depict the integrations with these modules.
