config settings of alt.sales document types

Hi gurus,

Is there any configuration for alternate sales document types.(except vov8) , if so please explain clearly...

I request you to give detailed description of configuration steps and relevant easy access work to be done by the user* I dont think its a silly question, i could n't find the same in the search (forum search), please give clarity on the concept...

hi,

the purpose of alt sales doc type is to change the doc type half way through the process.'

ie suppose you are creating an inquiry doc and you have entered all the relevant data. now you decide to directly create a order without creating an inquiry with the same data, in this situation if you have selected alt sales doc type as OR in VOV8 in order type inquiry.. you will see two radio buttons in the va21screen one saying inquiryand other sales order with default on inquiry. now if you select the sales order radio button and save the doc the doc will be saved as sales order and not as inquiry. before saving it will also check the incompletion log

Hi navaneetha & k.prasad,

problem solved, i have taken custom documents of or,cs & ro and maintained similar properties and then radio buttons appeared in va01....

Except VOV8, there is no other place where you need to do the configuration for Alternate document type. You only have to provide the alternate document type for your document in VOV8 and also ensure that the alternate document type is also defined in VOV8.

When you are creating order in VA01, once you enter into the sales order creation screen, you can see in a tabstrip that the document type you have selected in VA01 screen is being created. At the same time, it will also allow you to change the document type to the alternate document type. This is the objective of the configuration.

I still dont know the business significance of this configuration. So please be doubly sure before doing the configuration for this and only if you are convinced that you need this functionality, you can do it.

That is obvious. You cannot replace OR document type with some document type like RO or CS etc. Because these document types are of different types and differ in the way they behave. OR is normal doc type, while RO is rush order while CS is Service. If you look the features of these doc types in VOV8, there will be changes in their properties.

You can select only those document types which are

same in document category, same in transaction group,etc etc. Just put a F1 help in the alternate sales document type, you will get the ifnormation. You can also do a google search on that field or find out some OSS notes on that field to learn more about that functionality.

Ideally if OR is the doc type, then imagine that the alternate one can be ZOR which is custom made almost similar to OR but only differs in very few features.
