Hi,

You find more informations in this OSS note :

Note 817101 - Texts: Referencing or duplicating?

Extract :

1. In SAP sales and distribution processing, there are two options for copying a text to documents:

a) You can duplicate a text.

b) You can reference a text.

Whether you want to duplicate or reference a text, use text Customizing in transaction VOTX or VOTXN (as of Release 4.70) for each desired text type in the different text determination procedures.

In Release 4.6C or lower, the "Reference/duplicate" (TTXER-REDUP) indicator is called "Copy". As of Release 4.70 it is called "Reference/duplicate" (TTXERN-REDUP).

If the "Copy" or "Reference/duplicate" indicator is blank, then you activated the referencing of the text. If the indicator is set to 'X', the text will be duplicated or copied.

Information about a) Duplicate text

If a text is duplicated, the system creates a copy of the text.

If you change the original text, this does not affect the text in (follow-on) documents.

In the STXH table (SAPscript text file header) the "Name of referenced text" (TDREFNAME) field is then not filled, for example.

Among other things, then this process is required if the text changes are time-dependent and should not be copied to already existing documents.

Information about b) Reference text

If a text is referenced, only one version of it exists on the database.

In the document, in which the text appears, the original text is merely referred to as a reference.

If you subsequently change the original text, this appears in all documents that reference it.

As soon as you change a text that refers to a reference text, the system explodes the reference automatically to the relevant original text. It is then duplicated or copied and becomes an independent text that is no longer affected by changes to the original text. The reference remains cancelled if you change a text and later undo the changes.

...

For my first anwser, it's just otherwise. Then ambiguities ...

Lionel

Hi,

If you select this field, we have the situation if the text is copied from SO1 to SO2 :

- If the text in SO1 is changed, the text in SO2 will also be changed.

- If only the text in SO2 is changed, it is just copied. Any changes to the text in SO1 will no longer affect the text in SO2.

If you don't flag this field, the text is just copied. The modication in SO1 doesn't affect SO2.

Lionel

Hi

This is to control for editing or making changes to the copied text. When a text is referenced - we cannot make changes to that in the referenced document and can make changes only in the text of the original document from where this text is copied.

If the text is Duplicated - then the system allows to make changes in the document to which the text is copied.

Thanks,

Ravi
