Notification emails from CE 7.1 SR5 Portal UME

Hi All,

I've just installed CE 7.1 SR5 on my laptop...

I've been (trying) to follow all the post installation steps to get the config all sorted - so far so good it seems.

I'm a developer by trade and although I've done lots of work with the EP, Web Dynpro etc, I'm not really familiar with Portal config stuff or with Basis . I'm just working my way around the UME and getting my head around creating users, roles, groups, etc... Something I'm struggling to get working straight away is the email notification aspect from the UME. I've not made any changes to any config at the JavaMail service level and in the UME all I have done is activate all email notifications and also turned on self registration and got that working ok.

I'm not getting any emails out of the CE Portal. Am I missing something?! Should I expect the emails to just work out of the box?! My assumption from reading the documentation I can find implies that the CE Portal should just use the JavaMail service installed with the AS Java to send (and receive) emails but it doesn't appear to!

Is there any easy way to test it or see if it is working? And way of viewing logs to see if it is trying to send emails?

Any suggestions or comments welcome as I have no clue where else to look!

Gareth.

Hi,

I think there is a problem with the SMTP port.

Have you configured it properly?

You can view the logs using Log viewer tool in the NWA.

In NWA choose problem management>Logs & Traces> Log viewer.

In the server view slect User Interface.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

How do I configure the SMTP port? I've not done any configuration of the SMTP server. Do I need a seperate SMTP server for my portal to use - I assumed it could just use the SMTP server on the AS Java I'd installed and all the default config just points the SMTP server at "localhost". Is this correct or do I need to change something?

I've had a quick look in the log view but to be honest, I'm not sure what exactly I'm looking for If I go to the log viewer, I choose "General View" in the "Show" drop down and then "Expert" in the next drop down. Then in the "Display log file" drop down I've chosen "userinterface_00.log". I can't see anything that is obviously related to the JavaMail service though.#

Thanks again,

Gareth.

Hi,

You can use the existing SMTP server of your network.

You have to configure that SMTP server in the CE server.

In [this Help URL|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/89/c5fd430b63c74bbdfaa5f2ec9bb20b/content.htm], Email Notification configuration is given.
