If weekends are non-working days, the easiest way is just to assign correct factory calendar to the resource, since in the factory calendar, weekends and public holidays are defined as non-working day, in planning board, non-working time will be displayed in light grey color automatically.
If weekends are also working days, one work around might be you still maintain weekend as non-working day, but enable 'non-working time' in the DS strategy profile, so activities can be scheduled into non-working days.
If you just want to enhance the display without touch other settings, the ABAP enhancement can be a little bit difficult, you can study function group=/SAPAPO/CDPS_PRESENTATION, subroutine=dynamic_data_create, some customized logic might be insert there, but overall the enhancement won't be easy.
