I am installing java sneak preview with maxdb database trial version and installation continues forever it's been running more than 24 hours and sapinst log does not give any errors I do not know what to do? Can anyone help me. even i do not see any hard disk consumption more that 2 or 3 GB. I have 150 GB hard drive and 2 GB RAM.
thanks
I have the same system configuration. The installation took around 4 hrs for me.
So I think you should stop, uninstall and try it again. I did the same few times.

hi prasad
thanks for your reply
i was checking cpu consumptions in the task manager all time during the installation at the begining from phase 1 to 19 it usese 60 % or 70% cpu when it starts phase 20 IMPORT JAVA DUMP cpu consumption stays the same for few minutes then it reduces to 4% to 5%, But i does not give any errors. even i tried last night again and today morning i found the same thing some how it gets stuck at import java dump. what should i do ? please help or give me the steps to follow the way you guys have installed?
hello,
please check your database site. during import, sapinst must create database objects (tables, indexes) and insert rows to these objects. if your installation continues, also you can see detailed info about newly created database objects. if there is a problem related to database, also there must be an entry for error.
there is not a specific duration for installation. it depends on your system resources, especially ram of server.
but, you are right, your installations' duration is very long.
thanks for quick reply
i will check for file *.TSK could you please tell me which directory i should look for? also it is maxdb database so i am new to maxdb so can you please tell me or show me the way to check for some tables or data being inserted . It is creating database instance and database , infact it creates SAPMMC but since central instance has to be created first to see the whole system in sapMMc so it does not have anything.
thanks
you can search tsk files under sapinst_instdir
you can find detailed info about maxdb and log files under

i checked in the task manager and the amount of RAM usage is 57% during the installation and there is no other activity going on apart from installation so i still have 43% ram available. I do not know ram is the problem, do you think by increasing the memory this should work? even if it is ram problem it should atleast give me the errors or warning, but it does not give anything which is bizzare.

Hi,
Stupid question but have you used any funny characters in any of your passwords? Like @ or ! for example?
I had a problem a few years ago where I had done something similar and it just sat running for nearly 2 days before I killed the install. I cleaned everything down and tried it again with a more normal password and it worked in a few hours.
Oh, and 2Gb of RAM should be fine for the install.
Gareth.
thanks
but i has used training1 as the password and i guess which is valid as it creates database schemas , os users and then it starts the import java dump
i have no idea what's going on as it does not return any errors
how to find out as your system is waiting on something, in my case either it is pretty slow which i believe not possible as i have faster ram with powerful hardware or waiting on something from system or user, but system does not say anything, how to find out?
regards
thanks prasad
