Client import taking a long time with no change in disk utilization

Hello,

We are implementing SAP ECC 6.0 on IBM System i, i5/OS V5R4, SAP Kernel 7.00, Kernel Patch no. 135.

I've started with the import step of the client copy from PRO onto TQA, and this has been going on for over 14 hours, with nearly no change in the disk utilization of the TQA system, and with very minimal CPU usage on the TQA system also.

The tp system log on TQA simply says :

The Import Monitor shows that the import is taking place.

Is there a way to check whether progress is really taking place, or whether some sort of a hanging has happened, so that we repeat the client import step again.

Concerning the background jobs (SM37), only one job is currently active :

Job : RDDMNTAB

User : DDIC

Status : Active

Hi,

RDDMNTAB Active indicate that move nametab is running. so client import is in progress.

the import is dependent on the size of exported client.

Wait until finish or produce error by stms import.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

The problem turned out to be that the background job RDDMNTAB was fictitiously running, i.e. through transaction SM37, its status was active, and the 'Duration (sec.)' field was continuously increasing, whereas the job was actually doing nothing.

When selecting the job from within transaction SM37 , and choosing option : Job->Check status, the job just disappeard, and the conventional steps / jobs relevant to the importing started to run.

I think the reason for this is that if the SAP system is restarted for any reason, and the ending step interrupts the scheduled job responsible for periodically importing any request residing on the import queue - while in the middle of its run - when the SAP starts again, the job RDDMNTAB goes into the endless loop.

As far as I understand, the SLOG exists in the directory :

/usr/sap/trans/log/SLOG0828.TQA

and it is accessed by the menu bar option : Goto, tp System Log;

it says at the end :

I wonder, could it be the client settings (SCC4) that is causing this situation; anyway, it is as follows :

Client role : Test

No Changes Allowed

No Changes to Repository and Cross Client Customizing Objects

Protection level 0 : No Restriction

eCATT and CATT not allowed

The two check boxes :

Locked due to client copy,

Protection against SAP upgrade

are not checked.

Cause . . . . . : The library R3SYS already exists in the library search

list. The library was not added. Recovery . . . : If R3SYS is the library

you specified omit the command. If you did not specify library R3SYS then

change the library name (LIB parameter). Then try the command again.

check whether any background job is running using SM37?
