#ABAP_TRIAL Installation and Licensing

I've followed the instructions on

Thank you for those instructions. I have the backend system installed on a standalone openSUSE computer. And I have a windows PC that I've installed ABAP Development with Eclipse.

I struggled quite a bit to get this installation set up and working. But I finally have it installed and appear to have connected to the backend database through Eclipse.

I successfully displayed data per this tutorial

However, now I am attempting to create new ABAP Program, I'm being prompted for an Access Key (user registration). I want to follow the instructions to get the Access Key by going into SAP GUI, but I can't seem to find an installation for SAP GUI without having an S-USER id with SAP. I'm wondering if I've messed up the installation somehow.

I have a couple questions.

1. There are a total of 10 .rar files provided for installation. I downloaded them all and began unzipping them but quickly ran out of space on my hard drive! I thought that since they were Part 1-10, I could unzip and install part 1, then unzip and install part 2; so I began by just unzipping part 1 and running install.sh. I was prepared to do step 2 but the installation seemed to have completed successfully. And like I said, I am successfully connected to the backend database. Why are there 10 rar files? Are they all necessary? Is my installation incomplete?
2. How do I install SAP GUI for Windows without having an S-USER ID? Or do I need to install SAP GUI for JAVA?

1. When you unzip the first one, all the others are unzipped into that folder automatically. Just pay attention to the unzipping process and you'll see that it automatically unzips other rars.
2. The unzipped folder contains a client folder and a server folder. The client folder has .exe for SAP GUI, the one that you are looking for.

Re 2: the second blog link states "SAP GUI for Java".

Side note: I'd suggest to add "ABAP Trial" as a user tag and then you could easily browse other questions with the same tag by clicking on it.

Hi Chris, SAP GUI for Java or even SAP GUI for HTML ("Webgui") should be sufficient.

1. Yes, you need a biggish hard drive - ca. 100 Gb - enough to extract and install all the .rar files at once. If you don't have space for that, then you probably do not have a successful install.

2. We are looking into providing SAP GUI for Windows for a future release.

One small side note: We have chosen the hashtag #ABAP_Trial - ie using an underscore. If you want to make your question stand out, you can also use notify: julie.plummer .
