Hi,

For having MTS in VC you need to have the Material Variants.

Refer the link for detailed information on Creating [Material Variants|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/92/58c907417011d189ec0000e81ddfac/content.htm]..

Hello,

There are several alternative scenarios of using variant configuration in MTS.

Which of these are possible for you depend on the system set-up you have in place.

1) Fully configured material variants in MTS

Possible in core ERP.

2) Configurable materials in MTS

Based on ERP DIMP (Industry Extension Discrete Industry Mill Products) -> Mill Products

Needs also APO characteristic dependent planning to run end-to-end.

In a nutshell, in ERP DIMP you have the possibility to configure sales order items in MTS as if we were in an MTO scenario. The tricky part starts when you want to separate stocks representing the different configurations, and do an MRP planning. But core ERP MRP planning run does not consider the different characteristics of the demands.

The solution implemented in DIMP uses batch management to distinguish the stocks with different characteristics. Characteristic dependent planning in APO supports MRP planning on characteristic level, even in MTS. Thus, you have an end to end scenario.

3) Configurable material in MTS with single batch valuation

Building on scenario 2, this rounds off costing and valuation, especially if you run such a scenario in a multi level planning.

Usually different sales order variant configuration implies different cost & price of the goods manufactured. Thus, inventory needs also to be valuated differently. This can be achieved through single batch valuation. The value is of a specific batch recevied from production is calculated from production order costing.

This scenario has been described in SAP's Best Practice for Primary Steel, and has been enhanced with SAP ERP 6.0 Enhancement Package 4.

Hi,

As told by other friends you need to maintain Material Variant for using MTS scenario in case of VC.

Further you need to maintain separate material master for each Material Variant with following necessary settings :

IN Basic Data - 2 View :

Maintain Cross-plant CM : Configurable Material and don't put tick against check Material is configurable check box since you are in material master of material variant and not in configurable material itself.

IN Sales : Sales Org.2 View :

You need to maintain :

Item Category Group : NORM Standard Item

IN MRP-3 View :

Strategy Group : Any MTS strategy as per your requirement (e.g. 10, 11, 40 etc.) select.

YOu need to maintain following settings under Tab: Plant-specific Configuration

Configurable Material : enter your main configurable material here

Next below configurable material tick the check box of Variant and then GO to Configure Variant.

Inside Configure Variant , You maintain the Respective Values for your characteristics which you want in case of your Planned order / Production Order and maintain strategy group 40 and then save the material master with these settings.

Now when you will run MRP against PIR / CIR ( SO) in case of this material variant you will be able to get required characteristics values which you have maintained in material master of Material Variant you will find in case of Planned order / Production order.

Hope this helps you.

Revert if any doubt and reward if useful.

Tejas
