Hi every body. I plan to change our server and migrate SBO server from the old to new machine. Previously to real change and to prevent data and service lost to user, I try to test the install and migration process on a virtual machine. The problem is that our production system has PL44 installed but the neww install start with PL10 and I try to upgrade the new install to PL44 before migrate data. But when a try to upgrade to PL44 in the new install, in COMMON upgrade, the system request licence that I don't have and I can't get it because I don't have hardware key, installation numberand system number. Somebody could tell me the correct process and in witch step should I rerquest new licences file ?

Note that you are doing a test on a virtual server/virtual machine. As such, if you go ahead and license the virtual machine, you will have to go through all the same steps again when you actually migrate to a new server.

We've had the same issue come up with our clients who needed to move to a new server due to hardware issues. The client's data was SAP B12005A PL42, we only had a PL10 installer. Because of the license server, we opted to do the data migration after office hours. Once we had the PL10 installed, we used the final hardware key (hardware key's are tied to the physical hardware of the server) to obtain the SAP B1 license.

I've gone ahead and uploaded a sample of the checklist used when providing migration services and you can obtain it here -->

Thank for your response. While I am testing the installation in the new server and request the new licence key do you know if the old server we actually use will remain operative without service loss for production.

Your old production server will continue to run with no problems at all. You are legally required to remove all license keys after you've migrated to the new server though. This can be done by either uninstalling SAP B1's Server Manager and making sure the folder is removed (on the old production server after you've successfully migrated to the new server)

To get the Hardware key,

Open the 'Server Suite Manager' from the System Tray in the task bar.

From the 'Serices' dropdown select 'License Manager 2005'

Click on the settings tab, you'll get the 'Hardware Key'

Now log on to SAP Portal and check for the link 'Dowload License Key.

From the page delete the existing system and create a new system and request for license.
