Oracle 10.2.0.4

Hallo all,

we want to install Solman 7 on Oracle 10g and SLES 10.

If we install Oracle 10.2.0.2 we have to install 38 single Patches.

To avoid this effort we want to install the Patchset 10.2.0.4

Described in note 871096 this patchset would be released end of June or beginning of July.....

But note 1166258 described the Parametersettings for 10.2.0.4.

Has someone experience with this Patchset and SAP?

It is possible to get support from SAP, like ram-pup

best regards

Uwe

Hi,

I'velogged a SAP message about an Oracle problem I'm experiencing and the solution SAP have given me is to apply 10.2.0.4 which they are saying should be available tomorrow.

Chris

Well that's just fabulous. We are having so many probles with ERP 2004 and 10.2.0.2 and all those patches. SAP has asked to deinstall 10.2.0.2 and reinstall it. What a pain. I have also noticed that SAP has released and extended 640 kernel, note 1060539. So I was thinking of going to 10.2.0.4 withe the 640_EX2 kernel. Now I see there's yet more patches for 10.2.0.4. So my question is, has anyone upgraded to 10.2.0.4? Is it working?

I can understand that. Thanx God (or whomever) that there are other databases (than Oracle) too - you are the customer, you have the choice...

To be honest i never had a problem with the installation of the patches or patchsets.

The amount of patches is a little bit annoying, but ok every admin has his torture

I also never had problems with "clean installs" - means 10.2.0.1 + 10.2.0.2 + 40+ patches. It's the first time I'm struggling with this one.

Still in try-and-error process to find out the correct sequence what patch to install when and when to start/stop database and run scripts etc.

Hello Markus, if you ever get this resolved, please let us know. What O/S and version are you using? And which SAP Kernel? As I mentioned, our problem lies with 6..40 kernel and 10G. The kernel is built for use of the 9i libraries. the 64_EXT kernel is compiled with 10G meaning it uses instantclient instead of te 9i libraries. Also, we don't have any problems in our 7.0 BI system, (kernel 7.0) , nor CRM 2007 (7.0 kernel) nor NW2004 portal nor APO/SCM systems. (6.40 kernel)

Thanks

Alrighty then, stupid question here, but where is the download for 10.2.0.4? I can't find it under /swdc nor under the SAP Software Catalog. Does one have to download it from Oracle's web site?

Thanks

Hi - my sort of question - at least it means I can answer it!

try here service.sap.com/swdc

Then Database Patches from the top menu. Then Oracle on the left menu. Then Oracle 10.2.0.4. Then Database RDBMS. Then pick your platform

Best of luck

Thanks Markus, but when I go there Oracle 10.2.0.4 -> data base RDBMS -> what I see is patches and patchset1024_Solaris-64aa.bin , ab.bin, ac.bin, and ad.bin. Are then bin files the actual 10.2.0.4 patchset?

Thanks again

Hi,

check the note

509314 Downloading Oracle patches from SAP Service Marketplace

also it is mentioned in the note

871735 Current patch set for Oracle 10.2.0

but only in German. Soon to be translated.

Thank you Fidel.

I found note 1137346 for current patches for 10.2.0.4 from https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/ora.

Again, thanks! I won't start upgrading R/3 DEV till July 26th. Cross your fingers!

I just upgraded a Windows x64 box to 10.2.0.4 + Patch 5. It worked flawlessly - just the FIXCONTROL parameters are not working (have to find that out).

I get an

invalid ALTER

command on startup.

Hi All,

Just to let you know, if you haven't seen already, that 10.2.0.4 has now been released. Note 1137346 seems to be a good starting point in planning the upgrade

Just to add:

Note 871096 - Oracle Database 10g: Patch sets/patches for 10.2.0

<...>

10.2.0.4 has not yet been released

The release of 10.2.0.4 for SAP is planned for calendar week 28 of 2008.

But what SAP is not telling us:

For which operating systems platforms is the release planned for calendar week 28 of 2008 ?

If I remember correctly, other new versions in the past were not at once avaliable for all platforms; there were several weeks (or months?) between first and last.

Hello Joe,

On the oracle part of the SDN () you can find a presentation (from April) -> SAP on Oracle Development Update

It contain the expected release dates (of course, the first release was planned for June)

It can give you an idea

Hello Fidel,

thank you very much for this info!

I am mainly interested in HP-UX; so I am a bit more confident now than I was before.

Hi,

Have a look at note 871096 which says that "The release of 10.2.0.4 for SAP is planned for calendar week 28 of 2008". So I guess it's due any day now!
