how can I access / work with a virtual table (integrated through SDA) from any DB schema within my S/4 HANA ABAP program (without using BW embedded)?

- Is a virtual table on DB level in the ABAP dictionary available by default? How to amke it available?

- What are the general options to access this data in the ABAP layer?

Thanks & regards

Hi Klaus,

Only ABAP artefacts created in the ABAP Dictionary are available and known in DDIC. This means that the virtual tables are not known in the ABAP Dictionary.

To access HANA artefacts from any other DB schemas (using qualified names), you may use ABAP managed database procedures and functions provided by the AMDP framework. In this case, appropriate structures need to be created in the ABAP dictionary as neither metadata nor structures will be transferred.

More information about AMDP, incl. existing limitations are described in the online documentation.

Another possibility to access virtual tables will be the use of ADBC, where you may be able to handle the structures generically.

Kind regards,
