Hi all ,
Can anyone tell me what is the importance of storing data in Infocube. Can't it be stored in file as they are done in R/3.
I didn't find a suitable solution for this in the forum.
Regards,
Biswajit
Hi,
Data is easily stored and accessed using a infocube compared to storage in R/3. You can save as much data as you want in BW cube and retrieve it. In R/3 you save data in table structure but in cube, you store it in multidimensional. When it comes to history, that has thousands of records, R/3 type store is less efficient when compared to cube.
You may ask me can I still manage on flat files without ever using a cube??? yes! but it is lot easily done wit BW cube.

Hi Biswajit,
To keep it simple, INFOCUBES are repository for demand planning.
Its a central data storage for reports & evaluation. The data stored in Infocubes is used for forecasting.
Its denoted by BLUE CUBE in system. Go to T code RSA1, click on Infoprovider on left Column, then APO on right column, sub class it , you can see an (BLUE BOX ) Infocube.
Hope that helps.
Reward if useful.

3 dimensional data storage in cubes make it easy to access data than 2 dimensional files. it allows for fast slice and dice and data aggregation

Hi Biswajeet :
Actually infocube is part of BW which works on fundamentals of data warehosuing concepts .Characteristics that distinguish data in the data warehouse from data found in the operational environment are that it is: organized in such as way that relevant data is clustered together for easy access, several copies of the data from various points in time are kept together, and once the data is placed into the data warehouse it is not updated.
To build a data warehouse, you have to execute certain process steps which includes creating InfoCubes where data is stored .An InfoCube is a quantity of relational tables arranged according to the star schema: A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.
