Multiple Storage Locations to only one Warehouse Number

Hi Everybody,

We are in the preparation phase of a WMS implementation and we have detected the current MM-IM configuration holds storage locations as if they were storage bins. That means, we have currently a lot of storage locations configured in IM.

I would like to know what are the steps to convert all those storage locations to just one and then take advantage of the bins configuration in the WMS to supply the need for all those storage locations.

Thanks for your kind attention.

Luis.

Hello Luis,

If you have lots of storage location which are assigned to only one warehouse and you want to make only one Sloc & one warehouse then follow the steps:

1. Identify the main storage location you want to continue with.

2. Create Storage types as per the Sloc characteristics requirment.

3. Move material from "other" Sloc to main storage location (mvt type 311)

4. Sloc to Sloc transfer will create posting change notice so create transfer order for that posting change notice

5. Confirm transfer order

6. Elemnate the Sloc data for the "other" Sloc for all materials - Optional.

7. Archive the Material master storage location data. - Optional

If your system is running on IM and implementing WM, then also you need to follow the same steps, but instead of Posting Change notice it will create transfer request in step 4.

Hope this helps.

Dear Arif,

In my case, we are going to implement MM and WM Module simulatneously, then what are the necessary steps to follow to maintain the both modules...

Hi Arif,

Thanks for your answer. It is very useful, however my situation requires that I transfer the existing stocks in every pre-existing storage location to a specific bin location. If I send everything to just one storage location I will be mixing all the stocks.

Could you explain what would be the steps for that situation?

Thanks

Dear SAS,

Sorry for medling into your conversation. I was doing some research yesterday and I found this path that could be useful for you:

IMG->Logistics Execution->Warehouse Management->Tools->Data Transfer.

Open the document which explains this customizing activity and your case is reflected there.

Also look at this:

IMG->Logistics Execution->Warehouse Management->Interfaces->Inventory Management->Define Storage Location Control. Open the customizing document and it also has some ideas.

Hope this helps you a little.

Hi Luis,

I assume you will create the settings for you WH and assign it to one (the 'main') SLoc. So, this WH will have the proper bin-structure.

What you have to do is to move the goods from old SLocs to the new one via MB1B+311 and if they arrived you can move the goods within your WH to the desired bins (via TOs). Of course, you will see your goods under one SLoc, but here comes your WH into the picture: you will see all your goods in the proper bins (if you moved them into the proper bins via TOs).

I would wonder if you could eliminate these goods movements... If you are implementing WM I'm afraid you cannot avoid printing labels and this goods transfer MB1B+311 and the subsequent TOs offer you a great opportunity to do that (label-printing).

Other option is that you make physical inventory in all of your SLoc and in WM as well...but I wouldn't prefer this...

Or you can use other solutions (maybe LSMW)...
