Best Practices Templates in SolMan

Hi SolMan experts,

We are in the process of using the Best Practices templates for the AUTOMOTIVE Industry in the SolMan for the Blueprint phase.

We are also parallelly installing the Best Practices for Automotive industry in our SAP R/3 system

through eCATTs.

We have a project in place in SolMan.When i goto > Scope > Template selection>

I see only the one BP template ie BP_UTUS147 - Best Practices for Water utility.

I have 2 queries:

1) how do i get the BP content in our project ?

2) Can this be done by installing the BP Baseline Packages in our project

2) Is there any more content specific for AUTOMOTIVE industry.

It would be great if you could provide your inputs on the same.

Thanks for your answers.

Umesh Karane.

Hi Umesh,

Please refer to SAP Note 891616 on how to install furthermore BPs into Solution Manager.

I'll come to other queries after a while.

Hi SOLMAN Experts ,

Srini ,Thanks for your answer. We had already refered to this SAP note you gave(629829) for understanding the Installation of the BP content for SolMan.

I need help on the below query from all SOLMAN experts.

I saw the BP Content on the path > Solutionmanager(homepage) > Downloads > SAP Best Practices.

Under these there are various files :

  • SAP BP Content: Overview

  • Installatio guide,

  • BP Baseline Packages v1.6 germany,

  • BP Baseline Package v3.6 U.S,....

.

but it does not have have Industry specific BP content like for Automotive ind or Retail or Oil or Pharma.

Hence I want to know IF we upload the given above version of BP content ie.e ""BP Baseline Packages v1.6 germany"" in SOLMAN, then can we get all the pre-configured scenarios of Automotive industry in SOLMAN ? OR it will only import the generic building blocks which are common for all industries.

Thanks for answers,

Umesh Karane.

Hi Umesh,

I haven't installed the standard Best Practices, so can't tell you if it would offer Automotive as a sub-set of the generic BP template, which are on Country/Language lines.

It seems there are two different 'encapsulations' that SAP provides, one being core BP delivered via CDs, requiring BPIA for installation and use and the other delivered via SolMan.

I will share any further info if I come to know of.

Meanwhile, following are my thoughts:

(1) Have a look at:

service.sap.com/bestpractices -> Industry Packages ->

Automotive

(2) Install the BP Automotive components using BPIA (slide 29 of 32 of [this|https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000172892007E.ppt] file provides a glimpse)

When I tried looking at service.sap.com/swdc -> Download -> Installations and Upgrades -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP Industry-specific Components, I see 'No Data Available' ; it could be due to some restrictions on my personal S User ID. If it appears with content for you, you can download and install using BPIA.

(3) The BC Sets, eCATTs etc anyway need to be installed on the respective Satellite (or Central) system as the case be, so you may as well get the above activity going

(4) From SOLAR01, you can anyway look for some Automotive specific scenarios in the BPR, if you turn the filter active for Automotive industry

(5) If you do find the scenarios from BPR helpful, you can inherit them into the structure, and assign the BC Sets or eCATTs to the relevant nodes, from SOLAR01 or SOLAR02 as necessary.

Best regards,

Srini
