XI queing capacity

I am working on an EAI project for a major Retailer in US. They have the option of going for SAP XI as a middleware. However, while evaluating the middleware options, our architects argue that SAP XI doesnu2019t have the messaging capabilities. As part of a typical retails solution, the middleware should play an important role in transforming and transporting the data between the corporate systems and store systems. A retailer might have over 1000 stores across the country/countries. The middleware should have the capability in transporting a single message, to all the 1000 stores.

In connection to the above business requirement, I have the below questions to be clarified:

- Does XI has the queuing capabilities?

- How can we measure XI's queuing capabilities in comparison with MQ?

- Can it connect to multiple source and target systems of different technologies?

- Can XI route a single source message to multiple destinations, say over 1000

Does XI has the queuing capabilities?

Please check this link

SAP XI follows open standard. So, you can connect to n number of source and target systems of different technologies.

Can XI route a single source message to multiple destinations, say over 1000

You can route message to multiple destinations. You can use BPM for that. But performance tuning is needed if the server goes slow.

May be this link will be useful to you..

Hi,

First of all, As far as my knowledge is concerned and as far as i worked for many middleware technologies,

SAP XI is best. Yes , there are always pro's and con's for all technology but SAP XI is one which less con's than others. So i will bet if you go for SAP XI you will be in benifit. Now come to your question.

>>> Does XI has the queuing capabilities?

Yes. Ofcourse XI have queueing capability and it gurantees delivery in any condition. IN PI 7.1 , these things enhanced and its an added advantage. Till PI 7.0, we can prioritrize our messages using Queue prioritazation depending upon the priority .

>>>How can we measure XI's queuing capabilities in comparison with MQ?

All middleware has there own capabilities. As MQ is based on MEssage queuing , but this protocol is used by some other middlewares also and XI also support this with added queueing features.

>>>Can it connect to multiple source and target systems of different technologies?

This is pure EAI / Middleware work. Its EAI/MIddleware work is to connect with multiple Systems, both in Sender and receiver side irrespective from the technology they are using. So yes, SAP XI is a middleware tool and all these capability is with SAP XI. It also provides additional components like BPM. Try searching SDN and you will find many blogs and article.

>>>Can XI route a single source message to multiple destinations, say over 1000

Yes again. You route a single message to any number of destinations you want. There are lots of thing you can do with XI.

Hope this will clarify you.
