Configuration objects in Solar02

Hi everyone

I need some fundamental info on Solar02. Please tell me how could i best utilize the Configuration Tab in SOLAR02 transaction. What are the features and functionalities it provides which can be used to control the configuration of the SAP system.

Thanks

Drake

Hi Drake,

The main utility of Config Tab are as follows:

1) List BC Sets/ IMG Object references against relevant Process Steps

2) Carry out IMG activities in the respective logical components straight from Solution Manager

Both these steps require RFC connections to be established between SolMan and those Satellite Systems, as well as establishment of Project IMG in those systems from SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN

3) Upload documents on Configuration done (especially of Non-SAP systems) against relevant Process Steps

Having done these, one can generate 'Configuration Guide' from the main menu. It would include all these IMG/BC Set references and also include the 'body' of the word documents that is uploaded. One can exercise some filters before generation of the Config. Guide.

Having generated the Config Guide, you can consider it as a deliverable from Functional Stream to the client and even store that document in Solution Manager itself at some top node.

Hi Srini,

Is there any way by which the configuration changes which we do in the managed system can be documented.

The configuration document which we generate has the list of all the IMG objects which we maintain under the configuration tab but there is no information about the actual configuration which we do. Do you know any way by which the changes made in the managed system are documented?

Is such a thing possible with solar02?

Hi Vishal,

The better approach is performing the actual RICEF configurations using Configuration tab and maintaining the Documentation for the same in Proj. Documentation Tab. Since Configuration Tab actually keeps track of all the modifications, it will be easier to find out "who changed what".

Hi Vivek,

I got your point that we should document separately what configuration we are doing in the system and upload those documents.

But people expect that from solution manager if they will do configuration using the configurations tab then that will automatically get documented "what objects or values we are changing" and we can get it when we generated the configuration guide.

With the current capabilities it such a thing possible is solar02??

Also whats the difference in using the configurations tab and the configuration node available at the top of the hierarchy from where we can change the configuration structure?

Regards,

Vishal
