No space left error during tablespace creation

Hello all,

I'm performing an ERP for SAP NW 7.5 by using SWPM SP22 and XML Stack, also executed it in Custom Mode in order to choose the parameters manually.

During the whole process there was not an option to choose how many sapdata directories should be created.

After first installation phase and Oracle Database installation (and patching), when launched SWPM to proceed with Database Instance installation I get the below error stating that there is no space left to proceed:

CREATE TABLESPACE PSAPSR3750 DATAFILE '/oracle/<SID>/sapdata2/sr3750_1/sr3750.data1' SIZE 16000M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 20M MAXSIZE 32700M LOGGING ONLINE PERMANENT EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO

ERROR at line 1:

ORA-19502: write error on file "/oracle/<SID>/sapdata2/sr3750_1/sr3750.data1",

block number 1032960 (block size=8192)

Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device

At first glance it seems to be an space issue but there are 279 GBs free in our /oracle/<SID>/sapdata1 file system, also noticed that the error points to sapdata2.

After verifying just realized that 3 sapdata directories were created into /oracle/<SID> path (sapdata2, sapdata3, sapdata4)

First I´m not sure why SWPM did not prompted the option to create one single sapdata, but most importantly I would like to request your help in order to know how to resolve this error my first option so far is to increase /oracle/ which currently size is 50 GBs and has 43 GBs used, not sure if it will be a good practice or even if there are parameters that could be configured to amend the error.By the way, my temporal variable is assigned to a path with more of 30 GBs free.

I would appreciate your help on this issue, many thanks in advance

Hi Fernando,

Looks like the SWPM tried to create the datafile with filesize of 16GByte. Is there an OS limit on the files?

SWPM usually creates the datafiles still with size of 2 GByte per default and extends these later on.

By the way, if you choose the "Expert Option", you can choose the number of datafiles and there sizes in a separate step

Regards,

János

Hi,

Seems choosing swpm with customer parameter mode will allows us to specific the data file directory.
If you don't want to reinstall, then you have to extend the space for other sapdata* directories.

Best regards,
James

Hi Fernando,

please take always as reference your relevant guide (Installation of SAP Systems Based on the Application Server ABAP of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 to 7.5x on UNIX : Oracle): on section "4.3.2 Oracle Directories" you could see the standard path used for installation (four SAPDATA directory) and also take note of the minimum required space needed.

The error shown refers to the space left on filesystem where SAPDATA2 reside.

As you wrote, it's seems that there is a wrong FS partitioning; can you check if you are using a dedicated filesystem or the "/oracle" filesystem? (It's a little bit strange that SAPDATA1 filesystem has 279 GBs free space).

By the way, as Janos says, during Oracle installation section (on SWPM) there is a flag for "Expert Options" where you can then specify some more option (for example the SAPDATA / ORIGLOG path).

Regards,

Alec
