SAP Strategy Management Customization


Is it possible to customize the SSM tool in order to add workflows, additional attributes, additional fields...?

We are currently using SAP Strategy Management 10.1 and i was wondering if there is a way to create a workflow in the SSM so that the user would need approval to create an object such as an objective or KPI.

I know that the only workflow available in SSM is for the Data Entry and Approval and that the objects like objective and KPI are only created by users with certain privileges but is it possible to enable the end user which is the lowest level to create a certain objective or KPI, then the process would need the approval of another user with other rights. If the object is approved then it is created otherwise it is not.

In addition, is it possible to add fields to objectives or KPIs that contain attributes such as type of objective that contains certain descriptive field.

Finally, is it possible to create certain descriptive values in a certain field which will be an attribute to the objective or KPI and each value of that field has a weight given to it, so instead of the end user choosing the weight of the KPI, he can choose one of these values in a dropdown list and the weight is given automatically.

I would really appreciate your help.

    In SP17 there was an enhancement to enable workflows for the approval of Initiatives to be put in place but this has not been extended to Objectives or KPIs.

    I would argue that the creation of Objectives and KPIs should be reserved for someone with administrative rights and should be managed through the performance management governance procedures as this goes to the heart of the structure of the scorecard and the strategy of the organisation. As such they are different from Initiatives as these are designed to be very much user managed.

    You can configure/reconfigure the 3 filters (Leading/Lagging, Qualitative/Quantitative plus the further optional one) and add the 3 Text fields to KPIs to associate attributes with KPIs. When you use the text fields the entries in these fields then become available as filter selections as well so that you can filter your scorecard based on the attributes in a Text field.

    All this is personalisation and not customisation so will be incorporated in the system and the therefore be part of the transport file and carried over when you upgrade to the next service pack.
