Hi,

You mentioned about creating the xml file for Frontend and Backend sytem. Could you please clarify which one is frontend and backend system in the scenario. Also in your scenario both Frontend and Backend are installed on same server?

For example in my case:

We have on premise

S/4 Hana 1610 application on AIX 7.2 and Hana 2.0

Hana DB on SUSE

Java system for adobe on AIX 7.2 and sybase (Same OS where application is installed)

Gateway Server for Fiori , Netweaver 7.5 on AIX 7.2 and sybase

So, if we plan for an upgrade to S/4 HANA 1709, what should be our approach?

Thanks,

Pankaj

Hello Pankaj,

Your Gateway server is your Frontend system and your S/4HANA 1610 including the HANA database are your Backend system. Your Adobe Document Services installation can be handled separately and could potentially be moved into the SAP Cloud Platform.

Therefore your approach would be to create a combined Maintenance Planner transaction for your Frontend and Backend systems to upgrade them synchronously. You might already be aware of this blog by Gilbert Wong that outlines the process:

Best regards

Frank

Hi Frank Schuler,

Thanks for your input. You mentioned "create a combined Maintenance Planner transaction for your Frontend (gateway) and Backend (S/4 HANA 1610) systems to upgrade them synchronously". Correct me if I am wrong but both have different components, SID and both are on different server so i believe both will have their own stack file generated right? And we have to run SUM for both and upgrade them separately?

We are performing Parallel upgrade so we are deciding to build DEV --> DV1 and QAS --> QA1 by doing system copy and build the same scenario (Frontend, backend, Adobe instance ) as we are not performing in-place upgrade?

Also for Adobe Document Services, we are not planning to move it to SAP Cloud Platform. In that case nothing to be done for it right during upgrade? Anything to be look after in that case?

Its a complicated scenario, so have to look after everything before the actual upgrade. Please suggest?

Thank You,

Regards,

Pankaj
