Work center in PS module

Hi Expert,

Do we need to create a work center in PS module? What the function of work center in PS module? Where we should attach a work center in PS module ? (WBS/network/activity?

Plz advice.

Hi,

Workcenter is the only master data we have in PS. The necessity of creating a Work Center is to get costing of the activities within a network in a Project. Each element- for example, each employee will be connected to a cost center by virtue of his salary and he will be in turn connected to a Work Center. Work center helps in Cost tracking for a particular activity.

Hi Nies,

Workcenter means ,the place work is going on . for exapmle if you are doing a production of item for your project that time to controll all activities which are going on in work center , you will create that and assign it to in internal activity.

this is not hard and fast that this will be made by PS guy. actully this is PP Related thing and integration master data.

Hello Rama,

My doubt is, PS will never take care of the manufacturing process through network activities which are being done in production as that will be taken care of by PP through routings.Then why should PS create the work centre.

If possible, please give an example.

Hi,

Work center is used when u create your project structure using network activity.., when you would like to calculate plan cost for activity type ....u should use 006 for project management.

hi,

work center is related to so many modules, like pp, co, ps, etc., it is nothing but internal activity. for ex: if u want to manafacturing a product, that product having 3 process. like if u have a iron industry in that u have process to get out put or finished cost.

like 1st process : u get iron ore

in 2nd process: u melt iron ore and separate iron and scrap.

in 3rd process: u have to make the product, related to customer specifit

like this process only u get finished product. see in project system u have to created one work center for one process. then u have to easily identify the cost and other expness also.

i think so u got it.

Work center can be assigned to either an organizational unit or a work center in the Human Resource Management System (HRMS).

Work centers belong to the most important master data in the R/3 production planning and control system.

In SAP PS workcenters used for workforce / resource / capacity planning /scheduling a work - based on the workcenter - for an particular Activity(Internal) by maintaining the proper workcenter.

Based on the work performed actual costs known with the help of Cost center maintained in the workcenter.

Using CNR1 - can create the workcenter or using CNR2 can be duplicated to your requirement.

Hi,

work center is needed if you are using network based activity costing. Workcenters apart from helping us in identifying the group responsible for execution of a work it also helps in scheduling, capacity calculation & costing based on activity costing .

Work centers are used in Network- activity.

Hi,

You can either create new work center in CR01 or extend existing workcenter by changing the usage. Workcenter is assigned in internal activity and its functions are cost calculation and capacity leveling.

Workcenter and templates are the master data of PS so PS person may create it. Further there are some workcenters which are common for PS and PM or any other module, regarding this a call can be taken mutually. As said earlier the usage on basic data page controls the module.
