Hi,

Variants are needed so that some transactions in SCM can be used for multiple executions.

e.g /SAPAPO/TSCUBE transaction can be used for loading data from Multiple Info-cubes to be populated in various Key figures in Planning Area.

So for ease of execution and to avoid human error while entering the parameter values, we save them in a particular variant for easy recall, and less user dependency.

Hope this answers ur query

Hi,

Continuing on the example of tscube transaction that I mentioned above. the following fields need to be defined for the same.

Source

Infocube

Planning Version

Target

Planning Area

Planning Version

Period From To

Selection Condition

Grouping Condition

Key figure assignment

Characteristic assignment

Now lets assume that I have infocube IC1 which has KF1 & KF2 key figures captured as Sales History (Billing) & Sales History (Retail). These 2 values in info-cube should go to get populated in Planning Area Key figures - Billing & Retail.

So I save one variant by the name Billing Upload by mentioning the requisite parameters in all the fields. and another variant by the name Retail Upload by mapping the required Key figures through Key figure assignment.

Once the variants are saved, it eliminates the need for feeding all these values each time I have to execute the transaction.

Suppose I need to execute the transaction daily with updated figures for each date, in that case I can schedule a background job specifying which variant to pick up and execute the transaction without any manual interface.

Hope this helps

Hi

I did not get your question correctly

However you can note the following

1)Variant - It acts as a Template for any transaction. So that u need not enter the fields again and again for the same information. By saving as a variant, u can call the variant and execute the transaction.

This would be usefule especially while executing the transaction in background jobs

2) Variants - Material that differ in certain characterstics say for ex color or size
