Hi All ,

Kindly clear my doubt on below .

I saw New Features Guide for ASE 16 & found that new option introduce to kill spid forcefully . What my doubt & question is weather ASE 15.7 also support kill spid with force option ? Or its only introduced in ASE 16 as new feature and dose not work on ASE 15.7 version ?

As in nowhere in docs & document i found that it support & work , but some DBA's claims that yes this work for them in ASE 15.7 version .

Thanks & Regards

Rajat

Is there any risk of database corruption with the "force kill" command? Or, is the worst case that you might have to reboot the ASE server after a "force kill" (I'll stop repeating that now 😉

kill with force isn't expected to cause corruption. But there is always some risk with any command, even if it is very very small - and the risk is always somewhat higher with new features encountering unanticipated circumstances in the field.

Hi Rajat,

It is correct that the command exists in 15.7, though not documented, but the most important is to understand that it was only introduced to help get rid of an ASE task without cleaning up. In many cases it may well relieve the situation without issues, but this also implies that it may leave behind open resources - therefore it's not risk-free. Kill with force is to be used as a last resort if the task cannot be killed by the regular command and is blocking other processes, and the only other solution is to restart the server.

Hope this helps
